Imam al-Ghazali (d. 505/1111, may Allah have mercy on him and help us to benefit from him) divided his monumental work The Revival of the Religious Sciences into four main parts: al-ʿIbādāt (Acts of Worship), al-ʿĀdāt (Customary Practices), al-Muhlikāt (Destructive Vices), and al-Munjiyāt (Saving Virtues).

Jalal al-Din Rumi (d. 1207-1273 CE, may Allah have mercy on him) is usually known for his exquisite poetry (some of which has been typed out here as well), but I wanted to draw your attention to some of his prose work, which is absolutely stunning and mind(heart)-boggling… ma sha Allah. The following quotes are definitely in need of some “Reflect On This” time. Read them out loud, re-read them, benefit, apply, and share… Ya Allah…

I found this wonderful little book translated by Tosun Bayrak al-Jerrahi some years ago. It is a very nice translation, a very quick read, and extremely beneficial. The topic of the book is Futuwwah, or Chivalry, and it contains some of the most incredible anecdotes about high and lofty moral character that I have ever read, ma sha Allah. The words in this book—and others like it—move the soul and awaken dormant realities that lie deep within the self. Sometimes it only takes a sentence, or even a simple word, to bring one’s heart back to life again. I read these words, and I travel a million miles away as I reach for what it all means and strive for it all to come together.
